# TealFX

> HMRC monthly rate and Bank of England daily spot exchange rates for UK capital gains tax, with the source of every rate. TealFX converts foreign-currency acquisitions, costs and disposals into sterling, for accountant review.

How to read a rate: rates are units of foreign currency per £1, so sterling = foreign amount ÷ rate. HMRC monthly rates apply to every transaction dated in that month. Bank of England spot rates are recorded at 4pm London on each UK working day; for a weekend or bank holiday, use the nearest earlier working day. HMRC asks for the rate in force on each date and a reasonable, consistent method (Capital Gains Manual CG78310): one source for every figure, never chosen for a lower result. Every rate page is also available as markdown: request it with `Accept: text/markdown`.
